American folk art by contemporary craft artists
MY STORY
Joan Shaver-Hill
My art reflects my Pa German heritage. After the Am. Revolutionary War, many Pa Germans migrated into the upper Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in search of land. My ancestors settled in an area known as "Little Germany" , a remote area of Rockingham county in Brocks Gap.
I have collected vintage coffee pots and find they make an interesting canvas for my paintings.I also paint on paper and wood.I like how the different textured surfaces adds a unique quality to the paintings.
I like to paint rural scenes of the Valley and Pa Fraktur art with a Shenandoah Dutch style.
